It all started over a coffee....!
We were chatting through what arrangements we'd love to put together for our "Beatles Reimagined" concert (June 2025). It would have been so easy to stick to writing strictly within the trio's regular comfort zone and the 'safety of the wheelhouse' (with Monika playing Violin, Bruce on Piano, and Peter on Double Bass), but one of the signatures of the Trio is to push ourselves as musicians, keep things fresh, and break new ground. We all like a good challenge!
Peter mentioned almost in passing, that maybe we write some parts for him to play on classical guitar (instead of double bass) to which both Monika and Bruce said in almost perfect unison, "I can play guitar!"
Lightbulb moment... "Lets do an arrangement for 3 guitars!".
Saying that over a coffee is one thing, but actually writing the music, rehearsing and then playing in front of a live audience takes musicianship, concentration and commitment to 'ninja level' as performers!
We were immensely proud of the pop-up impromptu 'guitar-trio' that we formed and which we delivered over thr course of three concerts to a 'full-house' each time! Huge respect and kudos to Monika and Bruce for embracing the project and putting themselves way, way out there!. Thats most certainly that the heart of everything we do as Trio, a 'spirit of adventure' and risk taking!
As for the music, we merged two Beatles songs together, with the melody of 'She is Leaving' superimposed with a re-harmonised 'If I fell'. It was such a fun concert and so very different to our other offerings in the Gossamer Glow series at the Peninsula Studio Theatre! Huge thanks to Peninsula Productions for running with our ideas for the series!
